Position Overview

Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
Database Administrator is a highly motivated individual responsible for implementing enhancements to all aspects of the current & future NoSQL/ OpenSource DB architecture. Similarly, they will need to ensure that all database systems are high performing and hi ghly available a t all times.
Primary Duties will include:
- Subject matter expert for NoSQL/ OpenSource databases (primarily Mongo Atlas , PostgresSQL but also CosmosDB and other technologies ) within the team, with the ability to share knowledge and train other team members who are primarily MSSQL/Oracle DBAs
- Work with dev teams across the business to identify and migrate N oSQL/ OpenSource databases that are not currently looked after by the DB team.
- On call cover as a part of a rotation with other members of the team
- Take proactive measures to monitor , trend, and tune NoSQL/ OpenSource databases, to meet or exceed baseline stability and performance SLAs
- Create, implement, and maintain NoSQL/ OpenSource DB Health Checks/Monitoring, and have a demonstrated ability to automate NoSQL/ OpenSource DB health reporting/event notification, and corrective actions.
- Developing 'best practice' standards within the DBA team and working with local and remote development teams to ensure these standards are adhered to
- Working with dev teams to help designing and implement highly performant databases
- When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including scaling up or out, server configuration changes, index/query changes, etc.
- Identify code defects and enhancements and develop a detailed root cause analysis that can be leveraged by the product management and development teams to improve application availability and decrease the total cost of ownership.
- Perform all database management responsibilities in NoSQL/ OpenSource DB for production and non-production workloads on premise and in the cloud.
- Adhere to and proactively enhance the firm's compliance with applicable laws, regulations and codes of conduct in all jurisdictions in which the Firm conducts business and which have an impact on its business
- Work to identify risks and enhance control across the business
- Report control weaknesses, illegal, suspicious or unusual activity
- Maintain an appropriate level of competence through ongoing training, making requests for updates or development as required

Manage a global environment of SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Oracle and other databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems

You Bring To The Role
Bachelor's degree
8-10+ years of experience of MS SQL Server production support in a mission critical environment,Microsoft Azure SQL DBs and Oracle OCI environment
Experience in analysis and tuning of T-SQL queries to improve performance, providing baselines and reporting to higher teams on results
Experience with backup, restore and recovery models
Familiarity with server troubleshooting in a Microsoft Windows environment

Required Qualifications
Technical Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in commercial-grade business applications with:
- SQL Server Database Administration (2008, 2012, 2014, 2019, 2022)
- Production server management
- SSIS package development and maintenance
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience with SQL transactional replication
- Experience implementing and managing change tracking systems for database auditing
- Proficiency in configuring TLS encryption and certificate management for SQL Server security
- Working knowledge of SAN technologies and third-party monitoring tools
- Expert-level troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy & Planning
- Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
- Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Conduct research and provide advice regarding the selection, application and implementation of database management tools.
Operational Management
- Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
- Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.
- Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
- Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
- Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
- Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
- Create, or support creation of, required reports in response to business user needs.
- Perform database transaction and security audits.
- Identify, report, and manage database security issues, audit trails, and forensics.
- Implement security measures and frameworks, while ensuring compliance.
- Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
- Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.

QUALIFICATIONS
- College (CEGEP) degree in Information Technology or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications or degrees are preferred.
- 5 years of work experience in a DBA administrator role
Technical requirements
- SQL Server: Expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, performance tuning, and high availability setups.
- Oracle JDE: Knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards database administration, including performance tuning, system upgrades, and integrations.
- SAP: Knowledge managing SAP, with a focus on database optimization, system replication, and SAP module integration.
- Performance Optimization: Advanced skills in database tuning and query optimization, including indexing, partitioning, and system resource management.
- Backup & Recovery: Experience in implementing and managing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions across SQL, Oracle JDE, and SAP platforms.
- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with database security best practices, including encryption, access control, and compliance management.
- Cloud Experience: Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud) and experience with cloud migrations for enterprise ERP systems.
- Scripting & Automation: Knowledge in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate routine database administration tasks.
- Data Migration: Experience with cross-platform data migrations, upgrades, and consolidation, including ERP systems (JDE, SAP).
